Six generations of customers have walked through our doors. Here’s how it began, told one chapter at a time.
Two brothers-in-law open a clothing firm
Opened October 10, 1881 as Victor and Harris, founded by Charles S. Victor and Isaac Harris. The very first sale was a pair of shoes to Miss Ida Madison.
A young Jack Baughman clerks the counter
Victor's son Morris joined the firm. Around this time Jack Baughman began clerking at the store. In the custom of the era, trade goods were accepted as payment alongside cash.

Jack Baughman had become half owner, and the store was renamed Victor and Baughman.
The pivot to Western
Under Baughman's leadership the inventory turned toward Western-style clothing and boots, and the store added a mail-order catalog that reached customers across the country.
Home on First Street
After occupying several buildings along First Street over the decades, the store moved to its current location at 2029 First Street.
A Livermore landmark
Still family owned and locally loved, a downtown Livermore landmark serving the area's ranching and equestrian communities for over 140 years.
